The Microbiologist is a professional, non-overtime eligible position that reports to the Microbiologist Supervisor and the VP of Regulatory and Industrial Affairs. The Microbiologist is responsible for R&D formulation production and validation of Charm microbial based products and components. Additional microbiological functions include use and maintenance of cultures, quality control and support of Charm microbiological products and fermentation and manufacture of microbial based biochemicals.
Perform R&D in formulation of microbiological tests for food and water including formulation, recovery, inclusivity and exclusivity of microbiological cultures.
Maintain Biological Stock Cultures with knowledge of proper handling precautions.
Guidance and oversight of employees producing Charm microbial products and those performing microbiological tests.
Participation as a team in the manufacture and quality control of microbial test products and the supporting equipment.
Culture of microorganisms at the microbial bench scale and scaled-up fermentation level.
Support and development of customer applications for microbial products.
Creating and proof reading technical support documentation for sales team.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Degree in Microbiology with more than 5 years’ experience in conventional microbial test formulation.
Experience in Food Safety or Food Microbiology
Knowledge of biosafety level containment practices and recombinant organism regulations
Experience in fermentation using bioreactor
Excellent verbal and written communication skill
Must have valid driver’s license.
Knowledge of indicator organisms and pathogens and mechanisms of detection
BL2 laboratory experience
Experience with microbial formulation to promote growth and selectivity.
Experience with plasmids and/or bacteriophages.
Knowledge of Food Safety microbiology criteria and requirements.
Skilled with excel, word, etc.
Work requires some reoccurring physical exertion such as prolonged standing, bending over microscopes, lifting moderately heavy items.
The work may require specific physical characteristics and abilities such as dexterity, visual acuity, color vision and depth perception.
Able to work under the pressure of tight deadlines
Able to lift up to 50 pounds
This person will work in a cleanroom environment about 2 hours per day.
