Oversee successful operations of the Product Development Department by managing the approved new self-manufactured concepts and product improvements from concept approval through prototype approval, and provide resources and leadership to support the scale-up of prototypes to production and introduction.
Work closely with other involved departments including Technical Services, Corporate Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Marketing to coordinate the progression of successful new products and improvements to existing products.
Manage a complete approach to product development, including consumer testing, ingredient selection, defining critical attributes, developing processing parameters, and final transition to Manufacturing.
Manage the product development laboratory.
Provide technical support to Manufacturing in matters involving troubleshooting existing products and processes.
Manage product development staff and provide timely feedback on project outcomes and objectives.
Manage career paths and conduct performance evaluations of direct staff.
Solve problems, identify improvement opportunities and implement change.

Graduate degree with at least 5 years’ relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience (1 year of education = 2 years of experience)
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Cereal Chemistry, Baking Formulation, Engineering, or related field
Proven ability to build strong relationships with working partners; including peers, customers, and suppliers, while demonstrating a strong customer focus
Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in developing and motivating others
Strong communication and presentation skills, interacting with all levels in the organization
Willingness to use and encourage innovation in order to more effectively meet current/ future business needs
Ability to accept, facilitate, and implement change
Excellent planning and organizational skills; ability to prioritize task assignments
Strong project management skills; with analytical abilities, sensible approaches, collaboration and other methods to resolve complex problems and make decisions in a timely manner
Strong computer skills including advanced use of Microsoft Office Suite
Willingness to travel occasionally
Graduate or post-graduate degree in related food science or business field
Eight years of related experience preferably managing scientific/technical staff or salaried professionals in R&D
Previous department manager experience
Experience working with baking and ingredient formulation
Operational planning and budgeting skills
Ability to communicate personal business vision as it relates to corporate objectives
