The appointee will assist the project leader in the research project - “Big-data-enabled collaborative database for non-targeted contaminants detection”, initiated by the Food Safety Consortium. Depending on the candidate's background, he/she will be required to provide support on chemical analysis and carry out conversion of chemical-omic information to digitalized and standardized format; or to carry out research and development of the project in the area of generation, selection and verification of data in particular those related to food production, food safety, and food control management. Occasional travel may be required.
(a) a PhD degree in Chemistry, Food Science or Life Science, or related disciplines; (b) a sound knowledge of and work experience in sample preparation, gas chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography, infrared spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance, and mass spectrometry; or expertise in nucleic acid techniques and experience in bench-level experiments, for example, culture of microorganisms, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR, genotyping, WGS, RNA-Seq, etc.; (c) work experience in supervising, maintaining and upholding the smooth running of a chemistry research laboratory; or experience with laboratory equipment, record-keeping experimental data, and troubleshooting experimental protocols; (d) strong analytical skills, good interpersonal and communication skills; and (e) a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese is preferred.
